Essential Tips for first Time Automatic Driving Instructor Oxford

Bought an automatic vehicle?  Congrats!

What did you say?  You are new to automatic driving and are not confident enough to drive the car yourself?

Believe us, you are   not the only one who thinks likewise.  We all know the fact that driving automatic is way easier when compared to manual driving.  However, if you were  a ‘manual  driver’  before, getting  used  to  automatic driving  may  be  a  touch  difficult  in the  beginning. But, you can have a ‘helping hand’ by your side to ‘ease you through’ in those early days. Many Driving School Oxford offer short term lessons for people like you.  They  would  provide  automatic driving instructor oxford to do  the  necessary  hand holding  so that you  get rid  of the  initial  hiccups.  With their expert  guidance, you would  soon  become   confident enough  to  zoom  through  the  streets  of Oxford, with your  automatic  vehicle.

Here  are  some  important  tips  you  may  consider,  while  learning  to  drive  automatic-

1.       Forget the clutch as fast as you can!

Automatic vehicles do have gears. But, the vehicle can handle most of the gear changes by itself. This is why the clutch pedal is absent here.  Drivers new to automatic driving often ‘press’ the non-existent clutch pedal while driving, out of sheer habit.  This is quite normal.   However, you can do a small ‘trick’ to help you forget the clutch pedal.  You may tuck your left foot behind the right one, while driving.  This way, you can resist the ‘temptation’ of your left foot to press on the non-existent clutch pedal.

2.    Get  used  to  the  new  gearbox

Almost  all  gearboxes  in  an  automatic  car  have four basic gears, indicated by letters  P,R,N and D.

P- Park

It locks the gears so that the wheel can’t be turned. Make sure  to  be in Park mode before you  start  the  engine  and also  after  putting  the  engine  off .

     R-Reverse

You know it! It’s when you reverse the car.

N-Neutral

You may be in this mode while waiting in traffic or in lights.

D-Drive

Put the gear in ‘Drive’ mode to go forward.  When  you drive  fast enough,  the car  will  switch between  gears, all  by  itself.

Some  automatic  cars may  also have  other letters  in the gear  box such as  L ( lower gear) or S –Sport (  for  better  acceleration)

3.    Get  used  to the  ‘Creep’ feature

When you switch to ‘Drive’ or any other forward gear, the car will first move forward slowly. Similarly, if you are in ‘Reverse’ gear, the car will slowly move backwards. This is called creeping. This is simply to make it easy for you to keep the right foot over or on the brake while in slow-moving traffic or parking.

4.    Practice  before  you  are ‘ready for the  grind’

It’s always  better  to practice  hard  and gain necessary confidence  before  hitting  the  busy  roads.  You may practice somewhere in less traffic area and be more ‘hands on’ with the features of your automatic car before driving in high-traffic roads.
